Initially a small town on its own, and known as Halfway-House because of it's positioning mid-way between Johannesburg and Pretoria. Independance was relinquished in 1994 with the restructuring of local government and becoming part of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipal region.
Halfway-House does still exist but as a suburb of Midrand.
Midrand is home to the Kyalami race-track an internationally recognised venue for motor racing.
Small holdings form a large part of the Midrand landscape, and the Lippizzaner Horse riding academy is house among these smallholdings.
Small holdings with animals and open space are reminiscent of farm life and made all the more so if there is a fire with a fireplace in the house and you can see the smoke rising from the chimney when you are out in the fields.
The average winter temperature in Midrand hovers between three and five degrees at it's coolest and a day time temperature of around 16degrees. Not having a roaring fire in the early mornings and in the evenings would be a mistake.
Warming up ones home before the day starts makes getting up so much easier on a cold morning, and having an expertly cleaned chimney will go a long way towards making this task easier.
